Akapana Pyramid
The west side

You first encounter the Pyramid at the west side.  You can see the excavations ongoing in the photo above.  The Bolivian Government has done a lot of excavating and rebuilding of this pyramid since I last visited in 2004.  The Pyramid is stepped, just like the ziggarauts of Sumeria and the temples of Mexico and the Mayan temples of Central America.  Only this Pyramid is much older than these other temples and pyramids.  Just to the right is a path to walk up to the top of the Pyramid, which we did.
