The Maya Lands

Copan

After visiting Quirigua, we drove on to the Honduran border.  At the border time slowed to a crawl as the Guatemalan and Honduran immigration people took forever to process us through the border (you have to pay a fee to exit Guatemala and then pay a 2nd fee to enter Honduras).  1 member of our group got really excited and rowdy at then border as we waited for immigrations to approve our passports.  We finally got to our town, but our bus could not negotiate the streets.  So most of us had to walk to our hotel (just a few blocks; not too bad for me).  We finally got to our hotel, got cleaned up, then on to the restaurant and ate a much deserved yummy dinner.  I then slept like a rock (the kind that sleep very soundly!) that night.

The next day we were off to Copan for Mayan Magic!  Enrique led us in a beautiful prayer and ceremony before a Ceiba tree about 100 feet past the Visitors‘ Center and before we entered the site proper.  Then we entered the site and headed straight for the awesome stelae in the Grand Plaza.  Copan felt as great as ever.  I felt energized and rejuvenated after visiting the site, especially Temple XXVI with its totally cool Hieroglyphic Staircase.

The final day we visited the Jaguar Tunnel, spent more time with the amazing stelae in the Grand Plaza, and finally got to see and experience Stela V and Stela VI (which are beside the road leading the the town to the site).  Then back to the hotel to get cleaned up and off to HACIENDA SAN LUCAS  for a fantastic sunset and dinner.  An awesome finish to a fantastic Sacred Sites Journey!
