Yucatan - December 2007 Ake

The day after visiting Dzibilchaltun, Enrique and I visited the ancient Mayan city of Ake.  Ake is smaller than Dzibilchaltun, at least what has been excavated so far.  However, the Mexican government is actively excavating Ake and hopefully more temples will be found and restored.  Sounds at Ake seemed strangely muted, like I was entering another dimension.  A tree in front of one of the temples reminded Enrique and me of the Tree of Life in the movie THE FOUNTAIN.  I found that Ake was an amazing experience, different from other Mayan sites.  It actually feels older and different than other Mayan cities.

Like the city dedicated to Ixchel on Cozumel, Ake had no signs or plaques explaining the site or temples.  So I nicknamed the temples.
