Palace of the Sculpted Columns

After visiting the West Columns, we walked over to the Palace of the Sculpted Columns.  The Palace of the sculpted Columns felt the same as the last 2 years; nothing new to report about it.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying this temple, the Palace of the Sculpted Columns has outstanding bas-reliefs on its jambs and columns.  The architectural characteristics indicate a civic-religious function.  The Palace has a front gallery and a series of interior corridors.  Originally, the Mayans decorated the Palace’s 3 facades with geometric designs, carvings of dignitaries, and masks of a god with an impressive nose [Chaac?].  Inside the Palace, walls of subsequent construction stages enclose the space between the columns.
