Temple of The Deer

After the Red House comes the Temple of the Deer.  The Temple of the Deer looks similar to Red House.  This temple is roped off, so you cannot get anywhere near it.  As a result, I did not feel anything from this temple.  It is also done in the Puuc architectural style which I love.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying this temple, archaeologists named this temple because they found some small fragments of a painting containing a deer on the back wall of the west chamber.  The temple rises from a rectangular pedestal and is comprised of 3 aligned chambers with a small altar to the front.  The facade includes only a roofcomb.  Archaeologists suspect that the temple had a religious or civic function.  The temple dates from the Terminal Classic Period.
