Yucatan - February 2009
Coba
Nohoch Mul

Enrique and I rented bicycles and rode to the main pyramid, which was all the way at the opposite end of the site (1.4km, or 0.875 miles).  We walked up the pyramid, which is totally awesome and enjoyed the view and the feeling at the top.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying the temple, Nohoch Mul is the tallest structure in the northern Yucatan: 42 meters (about 136 1/2 feet).  In Yucatec Maya, “Nohoch Mul” means “big mound”.  Nohoch Mul is composed of 7 sections with rounded corners and 2 stairways on the southern side.  The temple at the top corresponds to the Post-Classic Period (1100-1450 A.D.) and in the niches of the facade you can see a descending god.
