Yucatan - February 2009
Chicanna

After visiting Hormiguero we then visited Chicanna.  Chicanna was a slightly larger site than Hormiguero but felt more neutral.  I mean, I did not feel much energy at all at this site.  We visited Chicanna in the afternoon when most of the temples were in shadow; that may be why I felt the way I did about this site.

Chicanna has one temple (Temple II in Group A) with an amazing monster/serpent mouth doorway, which to me looked partially reconstructed.  I guess that was a downer for me.  The site has 4 groups of temples: Groups A, B, C, and D.  I did not see Group B; I am not sure if it is open to the public even.

According to our friend William, Chicanna or “Chican Nah” in Mayan means “House of the Snake’s Mouth” or “the place of many snakes”.
