El Tabasqueno
The Road to El Tabasqueno

After visiting Uxmal, we drove on to visit El Tabasqueno in the state of Campeche.  El Tabasqueno is located off of Highway 261 just south of the village of Pakchen.  Although the sign states that the site is located 2 kilometers off of the highway, William clocked it at 3 km.  And it sure felt like 3 km to me!

I am going through a lot of details here because getting to this site is somewhat difficult, and I have seen very little about this site on the InterNet or in books.

We reached the parking lot after 3 km of unpaved and rutted “road”.  Above you can see the luxurious parking lot.

After parking, we walked up to the luxurious visitor’s center and signed the guestbook.  Then, finally, we walked up the long stairs to the site to behold an incredible temple with a totally cool Chenes style monster mouth doorway.
