Yucatan - December 2007
Uxmal

The day after visiting Labna, Enrique and I explored Uxmal.  Uxmal felt really lush and ornate, like European Baroque Art.  A lot of the sculpture and architecture was very beautiful to behold, although I felt the Maya at this point had lost their connection to the stars (as compared to Palenque, Tikal, or Copan).  The only Toltec influence that I observed was the 2 headed jaguar in front of the Governor’s Palace and the skull sculptures in the Cemetery Group.  Enrique and I explored every structure at the site and donated plenty of blood to the local mosquitoes!  On the first day we observed a spiritual group conducting a ceremony at the Cemetery Group (no photos were allowed).
