Becan
East Plaza
Altar

After visiting Temple IV, we walked over to the circular altar near the middle of the East Plaza.  The circular altar is the only altar that I recall in the East Plaza.  I really enjoyed sitting on it.  While standing on it I had a vision of some Mayan Holy People standing around me and rubbing something into the palms of my hands.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying this altar, the Mayans constructed this altar between 1100 and 1200 A.D.  Altars of this type are associated with Kukulcan, the “feathered serpent”, for their being dedicated to the Wind God.  The low platforms which break up the enormity of this ancient plaza correspond to the same period.
