Calakmul
Grand Acropolis
Temple XIII

Temple XIII (Roman numeral “13”) is the largest and coolest temple in the Grand Acropolis.  The architecture is also unusual compared to the other temples in Calakmul.  I loved walking up and around and just experiencing this temple.  I left an offering on top of this temple.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying this temple, Temple XIII is the tallest temple in the Grand Acropolis.  Archaeologists detected a substructure within the temple consisting of a large ramp that the Mayan used as a platform for a 2-chambered building.
