Looming over all of the other temples in the Principal Plaza is the Pyramid of Kukulcan.
The pyramid is imposing but blunt and crude, like a lot of Toltec architecture. Specifically, the geometry of the pyramid and temple on top is square, which is the weakest shape in Sacred Geometry. The pyramid has 4 staircases of 91 steps each, with the top platform comprising the final step, to give 365 steps corresponding to 365 days of our solar year. So the pyramid functions as a solar calendar.
The pyramid has unusual acoustical properties to it. The other notable aspect about the pyramid is that it is not completely restored on the south side, as you can see from the photos below.
The pyramid contains another older temple inside of it. This temple is Mayan. According to official history, this temple was built around 800AD. This temple is also closed to the public.
Our first night at Chichen Itza I had a dream that I was a Priest standing on the top of this temple during the Toltec-Mayan period. A large crowd of people were chanting/yelling. That is all I recall. So I feel like I have a past life connection to Chichen Itza.
