Calakmul
Central Plaza
Temple IV

Temple IV was long and not completely excavated/restored, especially the back of the temple.  I did not feel anything at this temple, although I enjoyed walking up to the top.  A couple of the stelae (including Stela VIII) were semi-readable, so I am including them here.

According to the INAH Plaque accompanying the temple, the Mayans built 14 stelae before Temple IV.  Temple IV is the longest temple in the complex (which I guess means the Central Plaza).  It has twin temples on each side (Temples IV-A and IV-C) and the central temple (Temple IV-B).  The Mayans modified Temple IV over a period of 600 years (250 B.C.? [I think INAH means 250 A.D.] - 900 A.D.).  One of the rulers of Calakmul was buried in Temple IV.
