Uxmal
The Cemetery Group

After visiting the South Group, we walked over to the Cemetery Group.  The Cemetery Group is off to the west by itself, way behind the Nunnery Quadrangle.  It is the only excavated part of Uxmal with clearly Toltec architecture and sculptures.  As at Chichen Itza, the Toltec style is blunt and crude and does not feel good.  It contrasts with the soft, gentle, pleasing Mayan Puuc style of the rest of Uxmal.  The Toltec sculptures sit in the open courtyard.  A temple sits on the north edge of the quadrangle.  The back side opens into a courtyard with a lot of trees growing in it.  I did not like this group, especially the yucky Toltec energy.
