Temple II is my favorite temple at Calakmul. It also happens to be the tallest pyramid/temple in Calakmul and the Yucatan (Of course Coba partisans deny it by saying that Calakmul is not part of the Yucatan.). Sitting on top felt really great, a peak experience. Enrique and I spent a lot of time on this pyramid and left an offering of sugar cane and crystal and tobacco on top. From the top we saw the Mayan city of El Mirador in Guatemala; I am not sure if it came out in the photo. Definitely the temple to experience when you visit Calakmul. According someone at the site, INAH moved the frieze inside Temple II to the museum in Campeche city. I am still waiting for confirmation on that.
According to the INAH Plaque accompanying the temple, Temple II has 4 small temples at its top forming a small acropolis.
Temple II also had an interesting stela, Stela CXVI, about halfway up the central steps.
